We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Buyer in our Material Management department. The Buyer assists the Director of Materials Management with activities associated with the procurement process, ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and efficient acquisition of supplies and equipment. The Buyer processes purchase requisitions, solicits and evaluates quotations, monitors inventory and backorders, supports product standardization and facility integration initiatives, and assists with purchasing, inventory, and expense management across the organization. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of Christian Health.

 

Competencies:

  • Consults with hospital personnel and provides information related to products, specifications, sources, availability, and other requested information. 
  • Processes daily purchase requisitions for uniforms, supplies and equipment in conformity with established Christian Health policies and procedures. 
  • Consults with Finance department to ensure accurate and timely information exchange for resident billing, accounts payable procedures, purchase order procedure, inventory and budget preparation and monitoring. 
  • Serves other departments in an advisory capacity in the purchase of supplies and equipment. 
  • Updates and monitors backorder report. Communicates anticipated delays and  substitutions to appropriate department. 
  • Initiates, negotiates, processes and assists in the summation of bids for supplies and equipment as requested. 
  • Ensures that supplies/equipment are received in a timely manner by coordinating purchases with the requisitioner and vendor/manufacturer. 
  • Assists Department Director to assure that procurement procedures meet the needs of the facility. 
  • Resolves and approves invoice discrepancies with accounts payable. 
  • Responsible for the investigation of supplies and materials. This involves new products and product utilization review in quality, design, and packaging. 
  • Generates, reviews, and reconciles month-end reports related to purchasing, inventory, patient care supplies, and other departmental activities. 
  • Assists the Director of Materials Management with special projects, purchasing analysis, cost-containment initiatives, facility integrations, and other departmental priorities as assigned. 
  • Evaluates Group Purchasing Organizations, bulk purchasing etc. makes recommendations to management. 
  • Evaluates monthly patient care supply reports for all facilities and identifies changes in utilization, purchasing patterns, costs, and opportunities for standardization or savings. 
  • Assists Director with Product Selection committee. Arranges demonstration of new products and equipment for appropriate staff. Establishes policies and procedures for product selection. 
  • Revises Slow Moving inventory and recommends appropriate action. 
  • Handles petty cash.

Schedule: Full Time 9am-5pm, Monday - Friday.

 

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent required.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrates compliance with the CH ASPIRE Standards of Performance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Three years experience in Purchasing; healthcare setting preferred.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory management.
  • Willingness to learn and operate a computer.
  • A flexible service oriented attitude.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to analyze pricing, purchasing activity, inventory levels, utilization, and financial reports.
  • Ability to negotiate pricing and purchasing terms and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action in a timely manner.
