Salary range: $120,000 - $127,500

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, Nurse Manager, RN to join Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health (RRBH). Under the direction of the VP of Mental Health Services and Chief Nursing Officer, the Nurse Manager, RN will assist in planning, organizing and directing the nursing operations of Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health (RRBH). The Nurse Manager ensures quality care by managing and leading staff to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The Nurse Manager will serve as a clinical educator developing, implementing, evaluating and facilitating clinical education and new hire orientation for RRBH. Will provide direct nursing care to meet patient care needs, as necessary. Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health Hospital and Haven are newly renovated state-of-the-art behavioral health care settings. They are bright, cheerful and filled with positive affirmations and evidenced based innovative therapeutic offerings. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of the Christian Health.
Nurse Manager Competencies
- Develops, monitors, reports, and reviews Departmental Performance Improvement indicators in conjunction with PI staff, for appropriateness of study and timely completion.
- Takes reasonable steps to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations and accrediting bodies related to area of responsibility.
- Effectively schedules and directs work to assure timely completion of projects and events.
- Reviews and approves/denies departmental purchase requests as appropriate.
- Works effectively with Human Resources department in the recruitment and selection of departmental personnel.
- Provides Vice President (EVP/COO or EVP/CFO) with regular verbal/written feedback and reports.
- Adheres to budgeted staffing levels.
- Assists in managing and ensures compliance with reporting of all events related to patients and/or staff.
- Ensures coordination and integration of Nursing with other unit disciplines in Planning and delivery of patient care.
- Conducts rounds on the Unit providing direction to staff as needed. Ensures that compliance with policy and procedure is observed, reinforced and staff re-educated when necessary.
- Work with Safety Officer to ensure that unit personnel participate in and conduct all fire safety and disaster preparedness drills and safety rounds in a safe and professional manner. Provides/recommends re-education as necessary.
- Supervises clinical nursing activities coordinating, directing and monitoring all Nursing activities and practices.
- Ensures the appropriate charging and usage of supplies - reflective of the Unit's needs.
- Assists Clinical Education department in the planning and implementation of in-service training classes that ensure a well-educated staff. Encourages innovative and stimulating approaches to new ideas. Assures mandatory in service requirements are met per regulation.
- Assists in assigning and confirming a sufficient number of registered nurses, psychiatric technicians or psychiatric nursing assistants for each tour of duty. Ensures that routine nursing care is provided to meet the daily nursing care needs of each patient.
- Supervises all nursing staff in relation to patient care including; assessments, re‑assessment and ongoing treatment needs. Review admission documentation on a daily basis.
- Performs other related duties as deemed necessary and appropriate, as directed.
Clinical Educator Competencies
- Demonstrates current knowledge, competence and expertise with all regulatory/licensing/accrediting agency standards/requirements.
- Maintains good communication with senior management, nursing leaders, department heads and frontline staff to ensure that the clinical needs of staff are being met.
- Develops, implements, evaluates and facilitates clinical education programs for the Mental Health services and Christian Health at large based upon identified learning needs and all regulatory/licensing/accrediting agency standards/requirements.
- Applies research findings derived from current professional literature in the development of education programs provided.
- Recommends innovations and/or improvements in practice based on evidence based models.
- Ensures all completed education programs are submitted to ensure inclusion into the education data base and individual employee education file.
- Ensures clinical education is provided to all 3 shifts as needed.
- Ensures all clinical education programs include the following: lesson plan, current references from professional sources, attendance sheet, post-test and/or competency checklist, and program evaluation.
- Plans, facilitates and teaches in the following ongoing programs as assigned: Preceptor Development workshop, Nursing Clinical Competency Workshop, CPI, Mental Health Clinical Competency review, regulatory/licensing/accrediting agency survey preparation and other programs deemed necessary.
- Coordinates, facilitates and assist with teaching responsibilities.
- Evaluates and revises the clinical orientation program for all newly hired nursing staff annually.
Schedule: 8:30am-4:30pm or 9am – 5pm, Monday - Friday. Weekends as needed.
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN required.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of mental health experience, with one year in a leadership capacity. Prior experience in med/surg nursing desired.
About Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health (RRBH):
- RRBH is a 58-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital licensed by the State of New Jersey and accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC).
- Our behavioral hospital serves adults from 18 years of age through the senior years. RRBH includes a general adult psychiatric division treating adults of all ages with various mental health diagnosis such as depression, bipolar illness, anxiety, schizophrenia, OCD and others. Our geriatric division is a locked, safe and secure newly renovated wing that specializes in various forms of Dementia, Alzheimer’s and a host of additional mental health diagnosis. While we admit patients who are voluntary and involuntary, we are not licensed to admit patients who require Short Term Care Facility (STCF) beds. Generally, these patients require a more intensive and secure environment for safety.
About Haven:
- Haven at Ramapo Ridge provides inpatient trauma-informed care and services in a safe and secure setting for women only. Located within Ramapo Ridge Behavioral Health.
- Haven is the first of its kind in Bergen County and the only inpatient women’s program in New Jersey. The program offers a wide range of trauma care support and services and patients receive personalized care plans that lay out a path to healing in a safe space separate from the hospital’s general population.
