We have an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Speech Pathologist to join our Outpatient Rehab at Christian Health. The Speech Pathologist is responsible to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, and swallowing disorders. The Therapist participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, manages resources to meet the needs of the resident balancing outcomes to provide effective and efficient treatment. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of Christian Health. 

 

Competencies:

  • Assessment & Evaluation
    • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing functions.
    • Administer and interpret standardized and non-standardized assessments.
    • Review patient medical history and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members for holistic evaluation.
  • Treatment & Intervention
    • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans targeting identified deficits.
    • Provide direct therapy to address communication disorders (e.g., aphasia, dysarthria), cognitive impairments (e.g., memory, attention), and swallowing dysfunction (e.g., dysphagia).
    • Educate patients and families on compensatory strategies, home programs, and safety techniques.
  • Dysphagia Management
    • Conduct bedside swallow evaluations and, when appropriate, collaborate with radiology for instrumental assessments (e.g., VFSS or FEES).
    • Recommend appropriate diet modifications (e.g., puree, nectar thick liquids), postural adjustments, and safe swallowing strategies.
    • Communicate diet recommendations clearly to medical staff, dietary teams, and caregivers.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with facility, state, and federal guidelines.
    • Complete evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, care plans, and discharge summaries.
    • Track patient progress using measurable and functional goals.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
    • Actively participate in care team meetings, rounds, and discharge planning.
    • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational/physical therapists, social workers, and dietitians.
    • Serve as a communication advocate for patients with expressive/receptive language deficits.
  • Patient & Staff Education
    • Provide training and education to regarding communication and swallowing strategies.
    • Educate patients and families on diagnosis, prognosis, and carryover strategies for home use.

 

Schedule: Per Diem, various hours. Saturday rotation may be required.

 

Education: Graduate from an accredited college or university with a degree in speech pathology.

 

Previous Experience: No previous experience required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrates compliance with the CH ASPIRE Standards of Performance.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a licensed Speech Language Pathology in the State of New Jersey.

  • Current certification by the American Associate of Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist (ASHA) in Speech Language Pathology.

  • CPR certification preferred.
